Community Member Testimonial
“Coming into the Hope House community can, and for me, has been a life- changing experience, transformative.
Caring, kindness, compassion is the foundation or principles that I am openly greeted with. I am met, without judgement, where and how I am, in pain, fear, dysregulation, confusion, anxiety...I get a sincere open response to help, in any way that is available. This, again, was my experience today with Brie. She didn't just cut my hair, she cut the cords of fear and anxiety about being around and trusting other people. She gave me a place to sit on a throne of dignity and in her chair I was treated like a person that mattered, that has value. I walked out with a hair cut, but also with dignity and being a changed person. Brie reminded me that in order to be with and help other people it is important to help ourselves. She said that we can be there for each other, "We are all just walking each other home."“

Hope Smiles
Taking steps to break the cycle of poverty takes courage and confidence, with the compassion of Dr. Yabut Dentistry.
In Ontario, 1 in 5 people do not visit a dentist due to the cost. Every 9 minutes someone goes to a hospital emergency room and every 3 minutes someone goes to a doctor’s office due to dental problems. The immediate impact of inaccessibility to dental care is pain and suffering. The long-term impact is often much greater as a lack of access to dental care can limit employment opportunities due to poor physical appearance.
In maintaining a healthy smile, individuals who access Hope Smiles are provided with the sense of dignity they need in order to move forward in their search for jobs or continued education.
Please note: Our Hope Smiles program is only available to volunteers, including community member volunteers. Volunteers must be a registered weekly volunteer who has completed 3 months of shifts.
